Sight Loss Information Service in schools
The purpose of the Mobile Sight Loss Unit visiting a school is to provide an interesting, interactive and enjoyable visual awareness programme to complement Key Stage 2 and is aimed at 7 to 11 year old children.
Our aim is to raise awareness about issues surrounding visual impairment and demonstrate some solutions to everyday problems. We involve the children by including sport, games and practical activities such as reading and writing with electronic magnification and pouring cold water to different levels with the help of a liquid level indicator.
We find this low key, fun way of learning is the best way of helping children to understand that with the help of technology and different techniques, visually impaired people can overcome any barrier.
